FIVE CORNERS COLLECTIVE BELIEVES IN THE POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHIC STORYTELLING.
What We Do
We are a non-profit photographic teaching collective dedicated to working in underrepresented areas. In partnership with community-based organizations, our teaching artists design and teach workshops that provide community members of all ages with the photographic skills to tell their own stories. We then create opportunities for our students to show their work publicly.
“Five Corners gave our kids a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They flew to San Francisco to see their artwork on the walls of the California Academy of Science.”
- Glen Marshall, Boys & Girls Club, Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota
Photographic Storytelling
Photography transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, allowing storytellers to communicate narratives that resonate universally. Sharing those narratives publicly brings pride to both the photographers and their communities.
On behalf of our students, we have curated museum and gallery exhibitions, created open-air public artwork displays, and designed and published photobooks and newspaper “zines” for community distribution.
“Five Corners has faith in our abilities. We get the chance to celebrate who we are and honor our families and communities.”
-Shirley Mitchell, Queens, New York
“Often seniors are invisible. Not seen. Five Corners has allowed us to shine.”
- Dorothy Grant, Queens, New York
